Deanna Spatz 4/24/2018 9:25 AMEating meatless 3 meals each day of the challenge was easier than I'd thought. While our household has cut down on meat a lot, jumping in and just doing it during the challenge showed how easy it is to do without! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Deanna Spatz 4/24/2018 9:04 AMI learned that Silvopasture adds value, not only to cattle and other animals, but to the soil, trees and other plants as well. Related to that is the practice of Permaculture, which converts the waste of one system to a resource for another. Great stuff! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Deanna Spatz 4/24/2018 8:27 AMLearning about Methane Digesters, which convert organic refust into biogas, an energy source, and diestate, a nutrient rich fertilizer, opens up exciting possibilities. I will contact farmers listed in our local food guide with the question: is use of small digesters possible here? -
Deanna Spatz 3/24/2018 8:17 AMI sent an email to friends who have explicitly shown concern for the environment, inviting them to check out the website and join if they wish. The challenge brings focus back to the environment, as it often gets shoved to the back burner whenever there is a crisis. -
Deanna Spatz 3/24/2018 8:13 AMThis is a wonderful resource and the challenge will broaden my ideas on the many ways of caring for our environment.-
