I'm going to buy a set of durable, reusable, colorful glass straws and give them out as stocking stuffers this Christmas.

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

I already knew that sell/best by dates were for peak quality, not safety. Nice to learn that use by=best by, not use by=expires on. Basically, unless it's baby formula, I just need to check the smell/sight of each food. I found a cool site eatbydate.com that estimates how long after the above dates foods are safe. The foods we waste most at my house are salad dressings (1-2 months past printed date), and cake mixes (4-5 months past printed date). I'm bookmarking this site for future reference.

    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Our culture's perception of entrees, main dishes, and one-dish-meals almost always prominently includes meat of some type. This means we feel unsatisfied without at least one daily serving of meat. We need to start making recipes featuring meatless dishes as centerpieces if we want people to stop thinking of meat as the center of a proper meal.

I agree.  I am working on that myself as I plan my meals.  Even when I make a salad I usually add some meat.  I am finding nuts are just as good.
