Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
-
Cole Bolick 4/24/2018 11:20 AMBioplastics - One thing that concerns me the most is that people sometimes don’t recycle their recycle bottles and they let them stay in the environment. Local actions could include putting up signs saying to recycle your bottles while global actions could be to change all bottles to biodegradable so the risk would lower. -
Cole Bolick 4/24/2018 11:19 AMTemperate Forests - I have to think about almost everything that I do wondering if it could be a problem. I have not felt overwhelmed by anything yet. I have not felt hopeful yet either. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Cole Bolick 4/23/2018 11:30 AMI think that my diet has a big impact on deforestation because my family eats tons of meat, eggs, and dairy. My mom used to have coffee a lot but she has changed to tea and I have decreased on my coffee consumption by a lot. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Cole Bolick 4/23/2018 11:16 AMI have to think about almost everything that I do wondering if it could be a problem. I have not feelt overwhelmed by anything yet. I have not felt hopeful yet either.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Cole Bolick 4/23/2018 11:15 AMOne thing that concerns me the most is that people sometimes don’t recycle their recycle bottles and they let them stay in the environment. Local actions could include putting up signs saying to recycle your bottles while global actions could be to change all bottles to biodegradable so the risk would lower. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Cole Bolick 4/23/2018 11:15 AMI still won’t really pay any attention to those dates unless I forget something in the fridge or pantry for a while. -
Cole Bolick 4/17/2018 12:05 PM(I put the wrong thing in the reflection for Geothermal energy) Our family's best investment could probably be getting solar panels at the top of our house. We use a lot of energy every day and we have an electric charger for an electric vehicle. Over time we could save a lot of money from using solar panels. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Cole Bolick 4/17/2018 11:43 AMThe energies that it is referring to is the earth's heat. 39 countries could supply 100 percent of the electricity with geothermal energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Cole Bolick 4/16/2018 11:26 AMI have never heard of biomass technology before this class. What surprised me is that biomass can be transferred into oil, gas, energy, and heat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Cole Bolick 4/13/2018 11:28 AMI had never heard of the term silvopasture before now, and I probably still wouldn't have heard it for a lot longer. I think that the biggest advantage that silvopasture brings is the fact that it can help trees, bushes, berries, and more grow even quicker. The only problem with that is you have to moniter closely how long you let the cattle near your plants/trees.
