REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?
Liam Boyd 4/21/2018 2:11 PMI think that we are already doing amazing things in Asheville in terms of electric vehicles, but I think that by 2020 we should push for at least 10% of new vehicles being sold to be plug in electric vehicles. We could make this more appealing by putting in more free charging stations, and offering further national and state incentives. I think that Asheville is already doing a decent job with the current means of public transportation, we have plug in hybrid buses, but I think that fully electric buses from a company like Blue Bird, along with much more public transportation, would encourage people to not even own cars. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Liam Boyd 4/15/2018 1:30 PMI thought that it was amazing that there are three billion people living in urban areas as of right now, and that number is increasing each year. We are going to have to completely stop the growth of suburban sprawl, because automobile transportation contributes to 27 percent of air pollution. Close to 15 percent of air pollution is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, which can be ended by introducing affordable energy. The major theme is that cities have to become more natural, more compact, and more efficient.
