REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 11:12 AMWhen I grew up in Darmstadt, Hessen I was always riding my bike or walking around town. In Asheville, it is very difficult to do this but I still want to as much as I possibly can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 11:10 AMI primarily use what is most productive or easy for the trip I am making. I was recently in NY and the public rail system saved me not only money but time. High-speed rails make me feel safe especially when they are well maintained. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 11:08 AMWe grow bamboo in our yard but other than that finding bamboo is very difficult to do in our community. Buying recycled products, however, is very easy to do in Asheville due to its sustainable arts community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 11:03 AMI researched a guy who powered his tiny home with an electric bike station. This is not only great exercise but completely green. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 10:54 AMIf we installed these microturbines at the old BB&T building we could power parts of our city. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 10:53 AMWave tidal energy could be used right here in this state! The barrier islands are optimal locations for the implementation of tidal energy. This surprised me so much because I thought it was only on the west coast. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 10:52 AMMy family uses more fuel efficient vehicles because they save us money each month. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 10:51 AMIf we support women then we support our society. We can provide funding to women's health programs and this will make women on a fairer ground. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Samuel Bruder 4/11/2018 10:50 AMMany women in my community are not in higher positions of power which would make them be able to help improve women's health and rights.
