REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/20/2018 3:49 PMReduce my shopping sprees and buying stuff I don't really need. Reuse my newspapers, I am going to lay them down on the ground, then I will put down my bark ships. This is great idea because it prevents weeds from growing and newspaper is biodegradable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/17/2018 9:48 AMIn my opinion, many people just take eating meat for granted, and do not think about where the steak or hamburger is coming from, they just assume that meat will always be there for them to eat. They don't think about the cruelty that some of these animals go through at the expense of our high demand for meats. And because our demand for meat is so high, they need to process these animals as quick as possible and these process methods can be very inhumane for the animals.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/17/2018 9:26 AMI would rather save the money for my grandchild's college education, instead of throwing the money in the garbage. Makes total sense to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/14/2018 9:48 PMOften times I save the ends of celery for homemade vegetable soup. I also have a compost bin that I use and then I put it in my garden every year. It makes for awesome fertilizer when I mix it up in the dirt. -
Pamela Ceglowski 4/14/2018 9:41 PMI chose the actions because I figured they were something that I could totally commit to and follow through with and would be fairly easy to work into my lifestyle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/14/2018 9:39 PMInstead of using the plastic bags from the stores I bring my own cloth bags that I use. And I bought a couple metal straws so I don't have to use plastic straws and I keep one in the car and one at home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/09/2018 11:25 AMIn my opinion, everybody takes 'water' for granted, just assuming that it will always be around, but I feel that I try to be more aware and conserve water as much as possible. For example, not letting it run when I am brushing my teeth, catching rain water to water my garden and plants. Not flushing after every use, (unless its #2). I think our attitudes must change and we must be more conservative for the preservation of water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Pamela Ceglowski 4/09/2018 11:19 AMI am eating less therefore I am losing weight. Taking the time to actually chew up my food, instead of inhaling it.And just being more conscious and aware of my portions and how much I dish up on my plate. -
Pamela Ceglowski 4/05/2018 10:28 AMI just signed up for this action challenge. I will be going to purchase the new economical shower faucet today!
