What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

Because most women have the lack of assertive power, and politics are seen as being male dominant, women are less likely to have the built in self esteem to participate in city politics. In recent years women have pushed through those barriers and ran for mayor.
