I need to give kudos to Ms. Duffer for inspiring me and so many others to draw down my carbon footprint!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

It seems that since the 1950s, lobbyists for the meat and dairy industry have been able to manipulate the public into believing that their products are essential for health. We need to educate folks in order to make this shift!

What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?

I have investigated the possibilities of solar power, but until today I hadn't thought about the possibilities of tidal energy. The fact that tides are always moving makes this an amazing energy resource!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you feel that these facts apply to you? If so, how might you incorporate an electric bike into your lifestyle?

Yes, my daily commute is less than 3 miles. I could absolutely use an electric assist bike for my commute! It would be very beneficial because our area is very hilly... we live in the mountains. I do wish that the price point was lower to allow more access.

Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

Bamboo alternatives are readily available in my community. I will make a conscious effort to buy only bamboo utensils instead of plastic! I will also investigate other alternatives as I need.
