Beyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?

Since I live in a forest, I get to see, smell, hear, and feel its benefits every day.  I will start with the sounds: in the winter, it is often silent. I hear the occasional plane, but no road noise. It is blessedly peaceful, and makes it easy to be contemplative. When it snows without wind,  the only sound is the gentle swoosh of the flakes as they land and pile up to surprisingly high levels on thin branches and railings.

In the spring, the birdsong, the rata tat tats of the pileated woodpecker can be heard near or far. When there is a breeze, I can hear it through the branches of the cedar and hemlocks. When the wind is strong, I stay safe inside and sometimes hear a large tree split with a boom and come crashing down through other trees - somewhere out there.

The forest offers too many beautiful visual benefits to cover here in depth. So I will only say that something inside of me deeply relaxes when I am in the forest, and can see no sign of human occupation, and no one can see me. I feel free. That is one of its greatest benefits for me.

The fresh clean air, scented with the fragrance of decaying leaves, is always a delight to come home to, after being in the city.

These are just some of the bountiful benefits that forests offer me personally.

This post was in response to a reflection question. Now that I know the question is not repeated, I will post the question next time...
