REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Gabriela Esparza 4/25/2018 10:46 AMDefinitely more energy saving light bulbs! I will be moving to a new home, one my significant other and I bought so we will have a lot more liberty to make all the necessary changes to make our new home more energy efficient and sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Gabriela Esparza 4/19/2018 3:42 PMIt is SO difficult! So many products and food contain food that contribute to deforestation. And they try to be tricky and use different names of the product so if you don't know all the different names of say Palm oil, then you could be eating it without knowing. Really it is best to just eat fresh veggies and fruits and grains. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Gabriela Esparza 4/10/2018 4:04 PMI want to prioritize things that are actually useful in my life. Things that I use on a daily basis, not once in a while, or when I remember to use it. Also most importantly, I want to prioritize experiences over material stuff. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Gabriela Esparza 4/10/2018 4:02 PMThe less I drive, the less traffic and pollution there is. That's how I think it effects my community. I do believe your experience differs whether you're walking, biking, etc. When I drive I am very in tune with the music that play and watching the road and the other cars around me. When I walk, I feel vert in tune with my surroundings, the noises I hear, all the cars buzzing around me, the sky, the trees and flowers. It's definitely more pleasant. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Gabriela Esparza 4/10/2018 3:58 PMI think eating meat is integrated so much into our culture. You see it everywhere and the majority of food restaurants serve meat. I feel like people hold on to the fact on how humans started on this planet, how they gathered and hunted. They use that and say that we have always ate meat so why stop now?
I think what will help the shift will be the culinary world. When I see that I can have a pizza that doesn't have any animal products and tastes amazing, that helps me to make the change. I think people have certain foods they love and don't want to give up, but if they can learn that you're able to keep eating the foods you want with just slight modifications that are not only healthy for you, but they taste great, that changes peoples perspectives.
