Sarah Frankhouse 4/12/2018 9:42 AMIn my class, we just watched a film on how people have destroyed the world. It was incredibly eye opening and one of my favorite quotes is "we only have one world." It might seem very simple, but if we don't try to stop global warming now, then there will be no where to go once the earth is destroyed. I also was very impacted by the images and videos of the dying animals in the oil spills because whenever I see animals suffering, it really hurts me. -
Sarah Frankhouse 4/10/2018 8:44 AMI have eaten vegetarian for about 2 and a half years now. I think that it has changed me because now I know my impact on the environment. Before, I went vegetarian because I didn't really eat meat in the first place and because I really loved animals and didn't feel the need to eat them. I have watched many films on how animals are treated at slaughter houses and I hated it. Recently in my classes, I have learned more about how eating less meat and local produce is better for the environment. I find this very inspiring because people always ask me how I eat vegetarian and I love telling them how easy it is. I am really happy to have a positive impact on the environment and my next step is to start growing my own produce in my backyard. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Sarah Frankhouse 4/06/2018 8:30 AMI think that one of the biggest barriers in our community today is how others treat women. I am not only talking about men, women degrade themselves too. A lot of people say "don't run like a girl." Even my track coach said that a few weeks ago. It is really degrading because I hear that all of the time and it really effects the way that I feel. Also, walking down the street and having people call after you is extremely disrespectful. Its like women are pieces of meat for everyone to look at and judge. I think that as people, we really need to stop the vocal downgrading of women. This isn't really a barrier, but I think that it really impacts the way that girls and woman think of themselves. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Sarah Frankhouse 4/06/2018 8:26 AMI am so used to riding the bus everyday that I hardly think about it anymore. It is easy with my school pass and phone to learn the bus times. I used to have a more negative view of public transport because before high school I rarely used it. I thought that it was dirty, but now that I ride it everyday, I have a high view of it. I can go almost anywhere downtown and because I don't have a car, that is really helpful.
