Today's post: "Kenya has made significant gains in education, with more than 80 percent of all boys and girls currently enrolled in primary schools. In secondary schools, the rate of enrollment drops to 50 percent for both boys and girls. Poverty is the main cause of low overall enrollment, and given socioeconomic norms, boys receive priority for higher education when there are financial constraints." (www.drawdown.org)

Today's post: “An educated female population increases a country's productivity and fuels economic growth. Some countries lose more than $1 billion a year by failing to educate girls to the same level as boys.”

Today's post: “Of the world’s 774 million illiterate adults, 2/3 are women. The share of illiterate women has not changed for the past 20 years. Among the world’s 123 million illiterate youth, 76 million are female. These gender disparities remain persistent, with little change over time.”

This is what I posted on my Instagram and Facebook page:

"My firm Opsis is participating in the Drawdown EcoChallenge in celebration and awareness of Earth Day (4/22/2018), and I am contributing to the effort by taking on the challenge of starting a social media campaign by sharing stats on gender inequity in education around the world with my social media feed to raise awareness. I will continue to share some stats over the next few weeks. Here is the first one:

“Less than 40% of countries provide girls and boys with equal access to education. Only 39% of countries have equal proportions of boys and girls enrolled in secondary education.”
