How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:22 PM
I think that communities are stronger when they don't have to deal with the consequences of poor environmental quality.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:20 PM
I would really love to see Asheville have more wind turbines to support all of the growth. I think it would be a great way to help power buildings but still supporting the environment!

What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:17 PM
I think that there needs to be new bills passed to protect the world and help with the environemental impact. There hasn't been enough support in the government to make needed changes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:11 PM
Wave and tidal energy are really unique. It is really cool how scientists have found ways to generate energy from the tide and shifts that the moon causes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:10 PM
I think the best way to help reduce carbon emissions on a personal level is research and change. Research the proper way to do everything then make the needed changes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 12:08 PM
I think that North America eats more meat than other place because the culture of North Americans has become focused around meat. For example "classic American food" is labeled as a burger or hot dogs. I think that there should be a shift away from the focus of any meat all the time, into a more balanced diet.

Why do you care about taking action on climate change?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 11:59 AM
I care about taking action on climate change because we only have one planet. I don't want to be part of the reason that the planet is destroyed by climate change, and I want to be part of the solution. I think that if everyone had this mindset the world would be taken better care of.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 11:44 AM
I think the biggest factor that influences the choices of transportation in my area is accessibility. The biggest problem for me is that city buses don't come near my house. This prevents me from taking public transit. I think that the accessibility problem can detract many people away from public transit systems because they would need transportation besides walking to get to an area that the system covers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Advocate for Forest Protection
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 11:40 AM
    Forest Protection
I think that environmental impacts are shifted away because we don't see the effects. If you do the research you can find the effects but it isn't something that is known all over.

What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Victoria Greever's avatar
    Victoria Greever 4/25/2018 11:32 AM
    #2 Wind Turbines (onshore)
The biggest thing that inspires me to take actions on sustainable energy is seeing all of the possible solutions for every area in the world. It also really helps to see all of the research behind it. I think that it's insane that things like the wind can create energy on such a large scale, and it is incredibly helpful!
