REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
June Hament 4/25/2018 9:05 PMWaking up to the cost of consuming meat is difficult - a challenge to many of our beliefs about "good" nutrition. I'm finding it a challenge to sustain 3 vegetarian meals a day, but I've been more conscious and willing to prepare at least 2 meals a day without meat. Growing awareness and being willing to choose are essential to change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhy is it important that girls have equal access to education in order to reduce our global greenhouse gas emissions?
June Hament 4/25/2018 9:01 PMProviding strong, safe educational opportunities for girls in developing nations - and here at home - helps young women gain the "grit" and intellectual independence to demand and work toward a better, more sustainable life for their families, communities and nations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat are other ways in which developing countries without the same infrastructure as developed nations can bypass old ways of doing things for cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies?
June Hament 4/25/2018 8:57 PMMicrogrids can be built using a variety of sustainable energy sources, managed by, and maintained by local communities -- and they can become economically self-sufficient by engaging and enrolling all community members in ownership. -
June Hament 4/25/2018 2:20 PMHere is the link to the Malala Fund. https://www.malala.org/about
They have some interesting ideas about fundraising for the cause of educating girls. -

I just made a donation to the Malala Fund, supporting girls’ secondary education programs around the world, funding global advocacy efforts and helping refugee girls get back to school. -

Tuesday, May 8. Click here for more info: http://www.delawareriverkeeper.org/dinner-delaware-riverkeeper"Join Maya for a lively dinner discussion on her new book, The Green Amendment, and her efforts to advance environmental rights amendments across the nation—notably in New Jersey, where a promising bill is currently before state legislators. Maya will also share news and developments on local issues affecting the Delaware watershed, including the latest on our fight to stop the PennEast pipeline." -
June Hament 4/24/2018 9:23 PMAlso, there is a visit and tour coming up to the Burlington County Recycling Facility coming up in a week or so. -
June Hament 4/24/2018 9:21 PMYes, I have been to the Atlantic City on-shore wind farm a couple of years ago. One of our DRVC Pachamama buddies set up a tour for us. You can stand directly beneath the turbines and they are ENORMOUS! Definitely worth a visit if we can arrange it. -
June Hament 4/23/2018 9:20 PMWe just watched a wonderful TED talk by biologist/economist Per Stoknes, https://www.ted.com/talks/per_espen_stoknes_how_to_transform_apocalypse_fatigue_into_action_on_global_warming#t-64826 on why is is so difficult to communicate effectively about climate change. Well worth viewing and thinking about. -
June Hament 4/21/2018 8:18 PMI just donated to Green Empowerment https://www.greenempowerment.org Check them out! It looks like they're doing great things, not only with microgrids for rural communities, but also clean cooking (biomass and biogas), and clean water/sanitation. I'd never heard of them before, so I'll continue to watch their progress.
