#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.

I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.

Madeline Harris 4/25/2018 4:29 AMThis was a very enjoyable experience. Learned some new things and appreciated people's comments on the blog. Now I am going to start working on my MSA through Comerica's YTC. -
Madeline Harris 4/24/2018 4:31 AMI'm enjoying interacting with a company called "Back to the Roots". I was given a "grow your own mushrooms" kit for the holidays and grew several batches of mushrooms. If you post a photo of what you have growing, they will donate some of their products to a local school. The kindergarten classroom that I selected really seemed to enjoy their growing experience. They have some great products. -

Madeline Harris 4/23/2018 4:37 AMFinally Spring seems to have arrived, but the compost is still frozen! Looking forward to using our "black gold" in a few more weeks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Madeline Harris 4/17/2018 7:59 AMThere's always the potential of the weight-loss benefit of using smaller plates and, therefore, smaller portions. We bought smaller plates at the holidays and are finding that we have a tendency to eat less because it takes less food to make the dinner plate look like a proper serving. -
Madeline Harris 4/16/2018 7:30 AMPurchased new reusable bags for shopping. My old ones were wearing out. I keep them in the back of my car so that they're with me whenever I need them. -
Madeline Harris 4/09/2018 5:00 AMReally pleased that Comerica lets us bring in batteries for recycling. My daughter brought me 15 lbs of batteries that I was able to put into the bin here at work. -
Madeline Harris 4/09/2018 4:57 AMHad dinner at Little Caesar's Arena this evening and was very pleased to see that all the food was served in moderate sizes. -
Madeline Harris 4/06/2018 4:25 AMSo glad Michigan asparagus is now available because I try to local source as much as I can.
