  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Identify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 8:47 AM
If one household begins to use solar panels or use some other form of renewable energy, it will begin to change the norm, and before you know it, everyone will be sustainable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 8:08 AM
I have learned about biomass technology before, but I did not know that biomass technology basically just sped up the carbon cycle. This was very surprising.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 7:41 AM
I had never heard of the term silvopasture before now. I think that one of the biggest advantages of having a silvopasture is that it provides natural fertilizer for trees, and provides shelter and shade for livestock.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 7:33 AM
When we all buy from a local farmer, we clean the environment by supporting our community. This influences my sense of community because I can feel camaraderie with other people who shop with the same farmer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 6:44 AM
I think that global warming is incredibly dangerous and hurts our environment. Support sustainable energy leads to a better, cleaner future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 6:35 AM
I learned that indigenous peoples' land is incredibly important in protecting the world's natural resources and maintaining a safe environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 6:26 AM
I can begin to use recycled paper, spend more time advocating for forest protection, and spend more time outside.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings and Cities
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 6:11 AM
I learned that buildings actually emit a large amount of greenhouse gases just because they have to provide a lot of energy to a lot of people. I also learned that better insulation helps to make a cleaner home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 6:04 AM
I can begin to repair things that are broken instead of just throwing them away. I already recycle and compost all waste that can not be put in the landfill, so I reduce, reuse, and refuse, but I need to do more repairing and repurposing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Anna Ikelheimer's avatar
    Anna Ikelheimer 4/25/2018 5:59 AM
I learned that video-based conferences are better for the environment because you do not have to travel to have your meeting. This decreases the amount of emissions from transportation.
