REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Kenzie Jackson 4/24/2018 5:14 PMIt makes me understand what is really going on in the world around me. This challenge has made me more involved and connected to what i can do and my opinions of what is really going on around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Kenzie Jackson 4/24/2018 5:11 PMIf you are always in your car with the music on and stuff like that, you don't get to enjoy the moment and the beautiful surrounds around you. Apposed to riding a bike or walking, you not only connect to your community better but you also connect to your environment...You can "stop and smell the roses" -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Kenzie Jackson 4/24/2018 5:09 PMBenefits of eating small portioned food could result in weight loss and malnutrition -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Kenzie Jackson 4/24/2018 5:08 PMProducts that have best sold by of best used by can still be used past the date. The keyword in that is BEST. It doesn't say MUST USE BY -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Kenzie Jackson 4/24/2018 5:05 PMIf we start using geothermal for city limits and such. We start in a compacted, populated, and tight area and then widen from there -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Kenzie Jackson 4/17/2018 9:14 AMYes. Biomass is one of the rising stars of renewable energy. As a carbon-neutral energy source, biomass technology is helping organizations generate electricity and heat while reducing their carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Kenzie Jackson 4/13/2018 9:18 AMNo. Silvopasture far outpaces any grassland technique for counteracting the methane emissions of livestock and sequestering carbon under-hoof. Pastures strewn or crisscrossed with trees sequester five to ten times as much carbon as those of the same size that are treeless, storing it in both biomass and soil. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Kenzie Jackson 4/11/2018 9:56 AMby research all the information i can and then raising awareness in the classroom and with my fronds, knowing i have a pretty good idea on the subject. -
