Keep Track of Wasted Food

#3 Reduced Food Waste

I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.

Today i did a large grocery haul/cleaned out the fridge. Unfortunately, some OJ, a few greens and some brussels sprouts went bad. We also found a couple half eaten left overs that ended up being tossed. I tried to meal plan out my next couple weeks meals, so that everything I bought would be used and I will also be saving money!

Today I purchased some asparagus and celery and had lunch out w/ a friend st a local restaurant. I ate the leftovers as my dinner and had nothing left :) I figure I’ll eat the asparagus tomorrow with one or two of my meals- or as a snack along with the celery!

Update- still just using up random foods and not buying anything new! So far so good. I’m really noticing how much I waste and that I could be saving a lot more money honestly.

Today I finished up my loaf of bread making a sandwich for lunch, and ate frozen waffles for breakfast. For dinner I enjoyed a salad, and am confident I am going to finish those bulk greens! I also noticed my two bananas are at perfect ripeness, so i will be incorporating that into my weekly breakfast. Got another loaf of bread, and will be eating sandwiches again for lunches. I have not thrown away any more food and it seems that if I can resist the convenience of going out to eat, I will finish up all my groceries!

I ate out for dinner tonight, and consumed my whole meal minus one salad role which I saved for a snack! I had some frozen food for breakfast, and a sandwich and yogurt for lunch from home. I'm getting worried the salad is definitely going to go bad before I finish it. I guess salads all next week to try to finish it all! My bananas are also about ripe, so I will be incorporating those into my daily diet.

Today I cleaned out the refrigerator of some old items- containing about 1/4 can of black beans, 2 jalapenos, a half package of broccoli/cauliflower, and half of an uneaten package of turkey. This was all bought before the challenge! Today I ate a salad, and a sandwich all from food I already had.

Today I woke up extremely ill, so I haven't been able to eat today. This concerns me because I just bought some fresh food yesterday and i don't want it to go bad! Going to make a salad for dinner later to use up some of my mixed greens.

I have been eating random food in my pantry and refrigerator to get rid of it. Today I went grocery shopping, purchasing a few frozen meals and some fresh veggies and salad. I am going to attempt to eat it all before it goes bad! i always struggle with finishing the big containers of salad before it gets slimy.
