REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Kristin Keith 3/21/2018 4:08 PMSmaller portions will definitely help a persons health. American's portions have gotten bigger and bigger which, in turn, causes bigger and bigger Americans. Using smaller plates will also create the elusion of a bigger meal. Smaller portions can be eaten which will cause less food thrown away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Kristin Keith 3/21/2018 3:08 PMI've always wondered how long after the sell by, best by or use by dates food is considered "good" and is still okay to eat. I throw away food that reaches any of the three dates. Now that I know companies add these dates to their food because they want you to eat their product while its at its best (you will be more likely to buy it again if its good) I'll feel safe eating food for a couple days or so after the sell by, best by and use by dates. I learned the sell by date is directed mostly at the stores in order for them to sell the product at its most freshest time (again - making sure the consumer gets the food at its best quality). Knowing this, I will hold food for longer and this will mean less waste in my household.
