Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

    Land Use
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

I haven’t thought much before this about my diet’s effect on deforestation; I do not eat much livestock or livestock products, however the processed foods I like, such as some chips or kit kats, contain palm oil, which contributes to deforestation. I can decrease my consumption of products that contain palm oil to reduce my negative impact on the environment, and start buying only Rain forest Alliance Certified coffee and chocolate.

Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

I think that the most feasible investment would be for hotels in our city to invest in geothermal energy sources with a small percentage of the money made from tourists; this would establish a value for renewable energy within our community as well as incentivize the hotel businesses to spend less money on energy (coming from non-renewable resources).

Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

I did not know about the many benefits of biomass; I learned that biomass is a renewable resource that comes from recently living plants and animals that can be used as a fuel. It surprised me to learn that biomass is a more of a transitional energy source, because while burning it contributes to an increase in fossil fuels in the air (as well known about gasoline and coal), using carbon-rich biomass to help cycle carbons in the atmosphere prevents further emissions and maintains balance.

Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

Before today, I was not aware of silvopasture as a term or concept, and after learning more about it, I believe the biggest advantage is the adaptability and health of the entire ecosystem that is a part of a silvopasture. There are many benefits of silvopasture, including the ability to counteract methane emissions by livestock, sequester far less carbon, have increased forestry production, have financial benefits for the farmers, and many more; however the ability to have increased health, productivity, and resilience by the animals and surrounding environment that silvopasture offers is the biggest advantage because it is the most telling about the care for the environment as a whole.
