  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Virginia Kirkwood 4/25/2018 10:27 AM
I think about my actions and how they effect our Earth
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Women and Girls
When family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?

It is important for peoples future and choices. we should respect others decisions
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you feel that these facts apply to you? If so, how might you incorporate an electric bike into your lifestyle?

I agree that most of my trips are done by vehicle because if i am not walking i am almost always driving. I hardly ever walk places unless it is for enjoyment. My trips are usually longer than a few miles except the grocery store is close. it would be hard to walk two miles to the grocery and carry everything
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Producing uneaten food squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these motivates you the most to change your behavior regarding food waste?

    Virginia Kirkwood's avatar
    Virginia Kirkwood 4/25/2018 9:37 AM
Squandering energy makes me want to change my behavior the most because to create energy is a lot of work. Many resources are used to create energy. We don't use many efficient methods for creating energy so wasting the energy that we have made is very careless since it was produced in an inefficient way in the first place.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

letting forests rise up on their ow n is a solution to deforestation. if i support food that came from a deforested place it is bad
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

    Virginia Kirkwood's avatar
    Virginia Kirkwood 4/23/2018 9:54 AM
I would invest in geothermal energy because it is one of the best options for energy that we have right now because it is reliable, abundant, and efficient. it should be tapped into more
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I had a vague idea of what biomass technology was before this and now I know more about it. i wasn't that surprised because i figured it would be using resources like wood(biomass)other than fossil fuels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Virginia Kirkwood 4/13/2018 9:26 AM
I had never heard of silvopasture before now but in just 15 minutes i learned a lot. i think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is lowering emissions and getting more out of livestock

I address my feelings of concern about climate change by sharing them with other people, and together, learning more about the issue so that we can brainstorm solutions together and take action.
