I work at a grocery store and it is really sad to see how much food goes to waste because it has been left out of the freezer for too long or is past the expiration date, when in reality this food is perfectly fine to eat. Companies don't want to be held accountable for any sickness that may come from their food (which is extremely unlikely anyway), so much that they won't donate food that is even a day "too old". The bakery at my store throws away garbage bags of bagels and other goods because they are too stale to sell and won't donate it to a homeless shelter or to those who do not have food because of liability issues. Clothing stores also do similar things, they won't donate their clothes because of issues related to profit and branding, so instead they burn them. Because of this, I have started to shop at thrift stores and get my clothes second hand. Not only is it cheaper, but it does not support large companies that would rather burn their clothes than give them to those who need them. Also, when I am at work I make sure to put everything back on the shelves and in the freezer as soon as I can so that fewer items go to waste.
