REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 3:53 PMeliminating stir sticks does double-duty...what I'm stirring into my coffee isn't good for me, either... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these advantages inspire you the most?
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 3:51 PMthey all do — and with a terrific chef and restauranteur right next door it's easy to support going local! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 9:57 AMIn general, I think women prioritize things like healthcare, nutrition, and education.
This stat was startling: when a mother controls her family’s budget, her children are 20 percent more likely to survive—and much more likely to thrive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 9:39 AMFrom what I have learned so far...and I have more learning to do...there needs to be more research on potential impacts the marine environment and marine mammals (still largely unknown today). It would be terrible to trade one problem for another.
My family and I so enjoyed learning about hydropower, geothermal energy and wind energy here: https://www.landsvirkjun.com/company/visitus
while in Iceland last year. Check it out if you get the chance! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 9:32 AMI was familiar with biomass, and had the perception it was more widely used globally than it appears to be. As a bridge to fossil-fuel-free energy future, to offset the variabilities in solar/wind until a storage solution is nailed, it makes sense. But regulation will be critical! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?
traci lesneski 4/25/2018 9:23 AMMy community is relatively small, and the trails along the river are lovely. Improvements are needed in creating convenient/tidy/secure/covered parking for the local businesses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?
traci lesneski 4/24/2018 7:01 PMI live in a critical and protected watershed region, so clean water, the effect of area farms and our yard and gardening practices are all top of mind daily.
We contribute to and support, and advocate on behalf of, the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust, started by a childhood friend's parents, who sold their 100 year family farm's development rights to the Trust in 2002. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
traci lesneski 4/24/2018 10:28 AMWe have been experimenting with the right tools to make online meetings just as effective as in-person meetings.
Online meetings are not only sustainable in terms of transportation, but also staff's lives. Travel can be disruptive, exhausting.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
traci lesneski 4/23/2018 12:16 PMThis was a great stat to know: Geothermal power plants emit 97% less acid rain-causing sulfur compounds and about 99% less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel power plants of similar size -
traci lesneski 4/21/2018 9:19 AMI’m even more mindful of the dozens of daily decisions I make that can make a difference, and how today’s jam-packed lives make it easy to choose badly for our planet.
