Just joined a CSA which I did I think mostly to support local farmers. I grew up in the 60's in town. But a lot of my relatives were farmers.  Being from Wisconsin that meant dairy farming. I can really appreciate how hard it is to be a farmer. Not just the long hours or the physical work. But also the long term planning and the preparing for the unknown such as the weather. I think I take it too much for granted as I can just drive to a grocery store to get what ever I need.

I'm not getting my challenge done to mulch my trees. The weather just won't co-operate here in Michigan. But this weekend is supposed to be warmer, so I may get to the mulching and compost.

    Food
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

I was already quite familiar with the difference between use by/sell by/best by dates. But it was a nice review and refreshes it in my mind. The more we buy local or fresh  food we wouldn't even need to remember use by dates as these dates are more useful for packaged products. So, I will try and buy less packaged products!

Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

I live near a lake and we have to be very mindful of runoff from our properties. The fertilizer we put on our lawns and gardens will runoff into the lake and cause plant growth. This can choke the lake and change the ecosystem. Also, we even have to be careful with grass cuttings or leaves raked from our yards so they don't end up in the lake.
