Guys, lets turn climate action into political action by supporting pro-renewable research and policies, and promoting such efforts ourselves as politicians.

I hope this will be a yearly thing. It was one of the best things I've ever done and I had this special feeling of inclusiveness that I've never gotten before. These habits will stick.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 6:00 PM
I value sustainability, and by making my home more energy-efficient, I fufill my values.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What are your next steps for saving energy?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:55 PM
Installing more energy efficent lightbulbs are my first step to saving energy.

I join the challenge as a way to act on my own, in the fact of complete inaction from our elected officals. If you are of voting age, make sure you vote for someone who will promote sustainability. If you are not of voting age, try to convince at least two people to vote. We can make a difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Advocate For Greener Vehicles
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:24 PM
I think connecting green vehicles to things like independence and freedom will be important in getting others to be more involved in advocating for fuel-efficient vehicles.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:22 PM
If you do have feelings of concern, fear, or despair about climate change, I strongly suggest taking refuge in the good parts of progress. News can be so bad sometimes, so rest on the progress we're making to combat climate change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Advocate for Forest Protection
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:21 PM
Hm... our trash goes to the landfills... I suddenly feel very guilty.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:20 PM
The part that feels overwhelming is just the magnitude of the problem we're facing, and the COMPLETE INACTION of public officals to do anything to promote sustainability, and that is pretty overwhelming.

But then I take refuge in the fact that everybody else is acting independent of goverment to work towards this problem, and that is one part from which I feel hopeful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

    James Lian's avatar
    James Lian 4/25/2018 5:19 PM
Maybe there is a health benefit to smaller portions? So you don't become overweight?
