Keeping and eye on my food waste this last couple weeks as been hard but good to see. Really has helped me to plan better with shopping and how many portions I am cooking.

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

One week down, and I find it quite embarrassing how much food I have tossed. I always thought I was better at being food resourceful..Hoping this week will be more successful.

Working on checking my food labels now. I thought I never bough palm oil products, but there it is on my can of Trader Joe's cat food label. Why is palm oil in cat food? I will have to be more diligent than I thought.

Seriously there is palm oil in your cat food?! I just read my cat's wet food and found corn oil, but not palm. Also learned that Purina is owned by Nestle. Fascinating. Reading food labels can take a lot of time but it's worth it. A fun fact I learned in my health class is that when labeling Trans Fat in a food-in there is less than 4.99 grams of Trans Fat it doesn't have to be labeled. So even if it says 0 grams, check the ingredients because it may still be hiding in there! Good find on the palm oil!
