Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:57 AMUh-oh... I've run out of challenges to complete! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:50 AMI didn't learn too much about family planning from the two sources Drawdown provided - or at least nothing I hadn't heard before. For me, family planning is less about reducing carbon and more about giving women control over their bodies and their futures. Having kids, especially when they're unplanned, is not for the faint of heart! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:42 AMSeveral of the products I regularly eat - even healthy foods - contain some form of palm oil. I didn't realize it was such a common ingredient! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:38 AMI learned that there aren't many big differences between use by, sell by, and best by dates. Before researching them I thought "use by" and "best by" were safety dates... Turns out they're just about food quality! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:26 AMBy visiting farmers' markets or enrolling in farmshare programs instead of buying product from supermarkets. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 8:25 AMHadn't heard of the silvopasture before now. I like the idea of silvopasture as creating a more diverse ecosystem within existing farmland - introducing nut and timber producers to pastures could also encourage more diverse animal species to come to the area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Samantha Logan 4/24/2018 7:51 AMLearned a lot about just how much modeling Drawdown's been doing on each individual topic. There's quite a lot of data! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Samantha Logan 4/23/2018 10:55 AMIt'd be awesome to live in a community based around renewable energy centers, community gardens, local farmers markets, etc. as well as repair/reuse workshops where you could take in pretty much anything you own that's broken and work with your neighbors to learn how to fix it. Even better if the community was all mixed-use, walkable, and bike-friendly. We'd need to shuffle around our community infrastructures quite a bit in order to reflect the change in priorities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Samantha Logan 4/23/2018 10:22 AMMore difficult than you'd think. You can remove dairy products from your fridge, but if you go out to a restaurant and order a house salad that happens to have a buttermilk-based dressing (which I did at lunch yesterday)... It feels like a waste to just send it back.
