  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

    Health benefits; insulin levels
    Less expensive; buy less
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Wealth and accessibility has created our meat focused culture.  Education about ailments and meat based diets has shifted my mindset.  Accessibility to vegan and vegetarian restaurants has helped me with the change
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Nicole Martineau's avatar
    Nicole Martineau 4/19/2018 1:41 PM
I leave my car parked Monday-Friday when I take public transportation; bus and rail to and from work.  On weekends I limit my travel with my vehicle to long distance trips; if I am around the city I either take public transportation or carpool via Uber.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

Our firm office is LEED Gold certified; instead of printing everything out we comment through Bluebeam Studio and minimize travel to our regional project with GoToMeetings
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food composting
Producing uneaten food squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these motivates you the most to change your behavior regarding food waste?

Cambridge, MA has a new bin!

In 2009, the City set a goal to reduce residential trash disposal by 30% by 2020, and by 80% by 2050. With that goal in mind, the City expanded curbside compost to all buildings with 1 to 12 units.  25,000 households (8,100 buildings) are now eligible to participate.
The Curbside Compost Program expended to all buildings with 1 to 12 units on April 2, 2018. Food scraps and compostables are picked up weekly on the same day as trash and recycling.

Why is the City doing this?  Removing food scraps will reduce trash in landfills and help protect the environment.

Continuous insulation; include 2" rigid insulation at foundation and create a thermal break at slab-on-grade condition
