Got my 1st lengthy government reply to emails I sent with concerns about our farming & forestry practices. What bamboozling! Some of the claims might have flown 20 years ago but are long defunct. Lots of dross that meant nothing in real terms. Talk of policy intentions as actions or results. I'll seek help in detailed response on each point.

Women and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

Culture is the biggest - gender stereotypes held by both genders. Unequal opportunities.

    Materials Install a Toilet Bank
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

I'd like to see the waterless composting toilets being promoted. Double gains - less water use & more compost for farms & gardens. Yeah, there would be a major shift of supporting infrastructure but easy to explain & accomplish.

I was most surprised to read how much electric bikes have taken off in many countries. They are uncommon here still. An awareness campaign could make great strides. I think our municipal government would be the best leader, tying this to its focus on the new bike lanes out in the last 2 years.

What struck me was the strong link between family planning and the economic & physical well-being of the children. The increased educational levels were related in some locations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?

Purchase their produce - mostly would have to seek them out directly or at special markets as they are too small to get space at larger grocery chains. I thought to approach chains about this produce but find that I seldom get a reply, much less a positive response.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    James McPhail's avatar
    James McPhail 4/25/2018 9:28 PM
Our city, Calgary, gets lots of wind blowing through. Certain areas receive strong, frequent winds - our NW, hilly areas. Micro turbines would be easy to install in fairly open areas or even with municipal & private lands and buildings

The enormity of the potential energy for relatively low investment was not a surprise. As ever, I'm hit by how little attention is given where it is low hanging fruit
