James McPhail 4/25/2018 10:19 PMGot my 1st lengthy government reply to emails I sent with concerns about our farming & forestry practices. What bamboozling! Some of the claims might have flown 20 years ago but are long defunct. Lots of dross that meant nothing in real terms. Talk of policy intentions as actions or results. I'll seek help in detailed response on each point. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 10:15 PMCulture is the biggest - gender stereotypes held by both genders. Unequal opportunities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Install a Toilet BankHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 10:09 PMI'd like to see the waterless composting toilets being promoted. Double gains - less water use & more compost for farms & gardens. Yeah, there would be a major shift of supporting infrastructure but easy to explain & accomplish. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Explore Other Transport SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 10:05 PMI was most surprised to read how much electric bikes have taken off in many countries. They are uncommon here still. An awareness campaign could make great strides. I think our municipal government would be the best leader, tying this to its focus on the new bike lanes out in the last 2 years. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
James McPhail 4/25/2018 10:02 PMWhat struck me was the strong link between family planning and the economic & physical well-being of the children. The increased educational levels were related in some locations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 9:31 PMPurchase their produce - mostly would have to seek them out directly or at special markets as they are too small to get space at larger grocery chains. I thought to approach chains about this produce but find that I seldom get a reply, much less a positive response. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 9:28 PMOur city, Calgary, gets lots of wind blowing through. Certain areas receive strong, frequent winds - our NW, hilly areas. Micro turbines would be easy to install in fairly open areas or even with municipal & private lands and buildings -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 9:25 PMThe enormity of the potential energy for relatively low investment was not a surprise. As ever, I'm hit by how little attention is given where it is low hanging fruit -
James McPhail 4/25/2018 8:59 PMI wonder if the app SuperBetter could add the competition aspect for increased drive for some its users? It has gotten this household pushing harder -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy do you care about taking action on climate change?
James McPhail 4/25/2018 8:57 PMFuture generations' lives, murder of entire species, overthrown ecosystems,
