TRACY's actions
Food
Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Food
Support Local Food Systems
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will source 1 meal(s) from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Buildings and Cities
Explore Other Buildings and Cities Solutions
All Buildings and Cities Solutions
I will spend at least 180 minutes researching other Drawdown Buildings and Cities Solutions.
Women and Girls
Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
#6 Educating Girls, #7 Family Planning, #62 Women Smallholders
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning more about the barriers to women's equal participation and representation around the world.
Electricity Generation
Rooftop Solar Consultation
#10 Rooftop Solar
After researching the incentives at the federal, state, utility, and local levels, I will contact a local installer/distributor for a solar panel installation consultation on my house.
Land Use
Restore Wetlands
#52 Coastal Wetlands
I will volunteer 3 hours with a wetland restoration project in my region.
Materials
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
#47 Bioplastic
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl and instead replace them with bioplastic or durable options.
Food
Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
#11 Regenerative Agriculture
I will spend at least 90 minutes learning about the need for more regenerative agriculture.
Buildings and Cities

I will replace 12 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Transport
Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
#26 Electric Vehicles
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?
TRACY MILLER 4/19/2018 3:56 PMWe support our local farm by joining the CSA and volunteering our time. My son is also working on an Eagle Scout project at the farm. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
TRACY MILLER 4/10/2018 5:56 PMVoter registration among women is greater than among men, but turn out tends to be less than 50% among women in Pennsylvania. There is also a notable lack of women in elected office at all levels in Pennsylvania, with the state ranking in the bottom 10 in the country. Hopefully, some ground can be made up in the 2018 elections and beyond, which will allow a corresponding change in priorities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
TRACY MILLER 4/07/2018 6:17 AMLearning about where our food waste happens - leftovers that don't get eaten, ingredients for planned meals that get postponed. It all goes in the compost and/or to the chickens, but we can do better. For me it's not so much about the money wasted, but on the wasted resources and labor. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these advantages inspire you the most?
