Justine Mouron 4/25/2018 4:50 PMI took the plane once in 2018, from LA to NYC, and purchase carbon offsets for this trip. I will continue for each of my flights! -
Justine Mouron 4/25/2018 3:27 PMFor Challenge #62 Women Smallholders I stopped buying fast fashion, decluttered my dressing, and only purchased good that I need from local or women/minority owned shops. I feel that it increases the affection I have for a product and is longer lasting and better quality compared to fast fashion. -
Justine Mouron 4/25/2018 3:26 PMFor Challenge #6 Educating Girls, #7 Family Planning, #62 Women Smallholders we organized a film screening of 50/50, a 20-minute documentary on women in power throughout history. To this day, only 50 women accessed the position of president or prime minister. This needs to change!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow do wetlands differ from other ecosystems -- both in the services they offer and in your personal experience of them?
Justine Mouron 4/24/2018 9:07 AMWetlands are a natural buffer to flood and sea level rise, between fresh and seawater. When balanced, they are an amazing ecosystems thriving with fish, birds and other types of wildlife. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Justine Mouron 4/24/2018 9:02 AMI have started checking if the businesses I deal with are women-owned. I can chose where my money goes through what I consume, buying from local, minority-owned businesses aligns with my priorities and principles, and I get to talk about if with my entourage - not changing minds right away, but planting the little seed! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
Justine Mouron 4/24/2018 8:59 AMThere is a huge need for family planning internationally. Education and access should be a priority. It is also important to provide the tools to properly understand how family planning works, and what the options are. There exists a broad array of solutions for women to feel empowered through family planning. In developed nations, the issue has come up multiple times, as hygiene products are taxed as consumables, and not considered a "first necessity good" - when it is. There is still a lot of work to be done to explain and change minds - this is on us! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseBeyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?
Justine Mouron 4/24/2018 8:56 AMForest offer shelter for a natural ecosystem, also establishing proper water flows and reducing the risks of erosion. Personally, being in the forest and in nature is a very relaxing experience - it has been proven nature has a calming effect. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Justine Mouron 4/24/2018 8:54 AMI have seen a lot of bamboo plates at recent events - great to see. A lot of people are also using compostable cups and lids for coffee-to-go (We have a Blue Bottle coffee shop a few blocks away). In my opinion, this is all great, but our main focus should be to reduce our consumption of disposables as a whole.
