REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Pamela Neville 3/12/2018 8:58 AMWe have an abundance, more than we truly need. Not only taking the amount needed, but wasting the excess that could go to others in need. We don't choose leaner, healthier options with so much readily available to any impulse. Rush vs time to appreciate the meal and company. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Pamela Neville 3/12/2018 8:56 AMPlanning meals and cooking for 2 not only helps us reduce waste, but using smaller plates reduces my intake and cuts down on my weight. It allows my mind time to recognize food is on its way and not putting in more than necessary. Slowing my eating with the portion on the plate is a huge help! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Pamela Neville 3/12/2018 8:54 AMLimiting trips I have cut my gas in half; filling only 2x's/mo rather than weekly. It has helped on the reduction of oil changes that have an entirely different impact on the environment. I have additionally reduced tire wear. It am planning better and adding more time to my home-life not running so many errands. Riding w/a friend saves time since they have a designated parking spot and saves on much of the above noted as well.
