Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 9:56 AM
The fact that this is our future and my generation can be the generation that changes things and turns it all completely around
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 9:20 AM
The fact that plastic is used in so many different ways. There are multiple ways that plastic is affecting us and it can be deadly in some ways. Plastic impacts the food that we eat as well as many other things. We could find something that replaces these plastics

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 7:44 AM
Micro turbines could possibly be place on the large buildings that we are building. I think the city could work out some type of contract to fix this. The mountains also look like they could be beneficial
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 7:43 AM
The old fashion way of growing food is not as helpful to the Earth as we think however there is a happy medium to the issue and there is a way to also eat healthier without harming the earth
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 7:42 AM
It makes me want to cut back on some of my actions because we could literally be suffocated on earth from our actions. The fact that half of the earth is having this issue and we would have alot of work to do. The fact that this is fixable

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/25/2018 7:26 AM
I would want to use this money to invest in college or trying to implement improvements on how we use our transportation
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?

    Madison Newborn 4/24/2018 9:58 AM
My diet impacts the environment in the sense of i do not eat more vegetables. I could change my diet around and try to consume things that don't impact the earth so heavily
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Women and Girls
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/24/2018 8:28 AM
We can work by eliminating the ratios of single women and parents. This is not helping because women are forced to do things on their own and when people see that image that makes them reflect on that and want to participate in the same actions
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

    Madison Newborn's avatar
    Madison Newborn 4/24/2018 8:27 AM
I think that geothermal energy would be highly dangerous all around and i feel that it could only work with the next generation. Not all people would understand this process and they wouldnt understand the labor behind it. I would possibly work on slowly transforming the earth and then getting the advertisement out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

    Madison Newborn 4/17/2018 9:25 AM
Yes I have and Biomass is something renewable and it is something that we can continue to enhance over the years. Biomass is what we can use to save crops and clean up many different things in our near future.
