  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Support Companies Leading in Green Energy
Every dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. What are some companies you know of that invest in green energy, and how can you support them?

Tesla!! We would like to invest in a Tesla solar roof when we can afford it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I think our family could reduce our groceries by planting in the summer and learning to can and conserve. Additionally, we have WAY too many grocery bags. We need to bring bags on our trips to the store.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

I think we need to develop or invest in better water treatment processes. Additionally, policies that protect our water sources will be key in protecting our water in the future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Relationships and family.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Heidi Odegaard's avatar
    Heidi Odegaard 4/19/2018 8:08 AM
I would rather use the money towards activities that we can participate in as a family, or put towards home improvement.

Provide birth control and feminine hygiene products to all girls at no cost.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    Heidi Odegaard's avatar
    Heidi Odegaard 4/05/2018 12:04 PM
Education. I personally was brought up as a meat eater. Now that I am in my 30's I am more aware of what I am consuming and the issues it maybe causing, mostly due to my curiosity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
