Here's a little update on my compost bin. Looks pretty much the same, under the dry brown stuff is where my food scraps are. Not seeing much decomposing yet, but there is definitely a earthy food decomposing smell, so I'm hoping that's a good sign!

Fourth day of the challenge and my compost bin is still looking good. However, I am getting a little worried because when I was researching how to make a compost bin at home, the articles said to not let the bin get to wear or the micro organisms will drowned but I live on the coast and the weather has been awful so im hoping the rain won't effect my bin. I'm also realizing how much food scraps I throw away on a regular basis. This challenge has brought that to my attention now that I am collecting all my food scraps, coffee grounds, etc. I can't imagine how much food collectively as a country goes into landfills!!

So for my challenge I chose food composting. Food composting is extremely beneficial to the environment. Usually when we throw away our food waste it ends up going to landfills where it cant properly compost, it then rots, and creates a greenhouse gas called methane! therefor, composting your food at home is Eco-friendly, fun, and results in beautiful nutrient dense soil you can garden with. Starting my own compost system is something I've wanted to do for a long time so as soon as I chose my subject I got started. My yard at my house is pretty small so I decided to start out with a simple compost bin, however, in the future I wouldn't mind doing a compost pile. Here are some photos of my completed compost bin.
