REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Fix Leaky FaucetsWhat are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?
Amrita P 4/13/2018 12:35 PMWe attached low flow aerators to all of our taps. Which is a cheap and easy way to reduce water usage and wastage. Instead of the twist taps we installed the ones with the lift/press down handle so that we can turn off the water easily while brushing our teeth or doing the dishes. For our shower head, in addition to adding a low flow aerator, we've installed a shower head shut off valve, so with a push of a button we can stop the water flow while shampooing etc and then push it back to run the water without needing to adjust the water mix/temperature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Upgrade My WindowsHow does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Amrita P 4/04/2018 9:56 AMFor us to have a possibility of a good future, we need to consume and waste less. We are depleting our planet of its natural resources and are unable to renew or replenish other resources at the rate we are consuming them as a society. We tend to think of immediate ease and comfort without weighing it against long-term consequences. If everyone is more conscientious of their consumption and waste we can slow down if not reverse some of our negative impacts. By making my home more efficient I'm doing my little bit in consuming and wasting less while still enjoying the comforts of a warm (winter) home and cool (summer) one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Plan to InsulateHow can you make your home more energy efficient?
Amrita P 4/04/2018 9:44 AMWe have re-insulated our whole house to maximize energy efficiency. A few years ago we replaced all the windows with double pane glass, and are looking into triple pane for the next time.
We are also replacing our exterior doors and installing triple pane glass in the basement. We've put on a high reflective steel roof and filled the attic with insulation.
in the winter we use 2 layers of heavy curtains/blinds at night and open them each morning to take advantage of passive solar. Plus our cats love the sunlight :)
