REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Cinthia Shireman 4/23/2018 7:04 PMMeat is a staple of our American diet. I am curious if this is because of our roots. Access to a meat rich diet could be linked to a sense of health and wealth. My father in law recently gifted my husband and I a half a cow. We are exceedingly greatful and it will feed us for a long time. When we thanked him he said "At least i know you will be eating well." Again, I am very thankful for the gift but eating well could also have been a CSA subscription for a year. How do we shift our culture? Let's start by stop labeling diets and exposing our youth to a wide range of foods. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Cinthia Shireman 4/23/2018 6:49 PMStormwater is a big issue in our community. Run off very often floods the streets in older parts of town. We all need to be mindful of the chemicals we put on our driveways, yards and streets to better protect our water system. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodProducing uneaten food squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these motivates you the most to change your behavior regarding food waste?

Cinthia Shireman 4/15/2018 7:46 PMLearned about an interesting composting method today. You nest a compost jar within a planter that you grow plants in. This could be a good option for urban dwellers that do not have access to a yard, -
Cinthia Shireman 4/14/2018 10:49 PMThe snow put a damper on my tree and plant mulching plans. Next weekend hopefully. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesHow can you share what you have learned in your research with others?
-
Cinthia Shireman 4/11/2018 5:37 PMIt ha become very apparent that I need a compost pile as the majority of my food waste is fruit and vegetable scraps.
