Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?

It's happening now. People in my region depend on numerous systems that provide production of goods, distribution, health, shelter, recreation, social space, personal development, just to name a few. Climate change is a set of resource depletions that overlaps with other resource depletions that are putting gradually increased pressure on our systems. It's unlikely that we can feel the increased pressure, personally, and in fact we seem to overreact to certain signals magnified by the news, such as when hurricanes and outbursts of social discord are misattributed to climate change. But if you study the vital systems around you, you can see the ratcheting pressure. My own attention has been on farms and forests, and I can see how the need to produce more efficiently is putting pressure on small owners and managers who are operating in competition with, or dependently upon, big ag corporations that can afford to disregard the externalities of their business models.
