How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

I address my concerns about climate change by doing drawdown work

Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

I’ll View it differently now that i actually now that they mean something. I just assumed that sell and best by meant they are not good to eat after those dates, being unaware that they simply mean how high quality a product will be on those dates.

Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

I think that geothermal is good although it cannot be used in North Carolina. I doubt a lot of large nations would be able to use it because i cannot think of many countries  that have an abundance of magma underneath besides some Pacific island countries.

Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

I had heard of biomass before, I knew it was natural material like tree logs and grass. I was surprised to learn that some community's revolve around it.

The problem with biomass is that it must be burnt to create energy, and that creates air pollution and contributes more CO2 to the atmosphere. Typical biomass examples are trash and trees, both of which are incinerated to make energy. However, they should not be considered renewable or given renewable energy credits. We are fighting that in our state of Maryland. It’s bad enough that their incineration is increasing our atmospheric CO2, but to give them renewable energy certificates is rewarding the industry for worsening the climate problem. Better to look to noncombustible energy such as wind, solar, tide, and geothermal, which do not generate CO2.

Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Ian Simons's avatar
    Ian Simons 4/13/2018 11:31 AM
I had no heard the term silvopasture before now, i saw it in the drawdown book but i did not assume anything of it. After learning more i think the greatest advantage of silvopasture is that it can also make the farmers money. It would be a good incentive for many to start it in the first place.
