Donald Suthard 4/25/2018 11:40 AMThe Ecochallenge has been more exciting and educational than I imagined. It has also brought our office together as we all share this experience together. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Donald Suthard 4/25/2018 11:37 AMWhat concerns me the most about how we are affecting the planet are the people who don't realize the environmental cost of their choices and actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy do you care about taking action on climate change?
Donald Suthard 4/25/2018 6:34 AMI can't expect other people to do their part to help the environment unless I do my part. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Donald Suthard 4/25/2018 6:30 AMWe try to limit our use of paper products at home by using cloth napkins and not using paper plates and cups. But now I will focus on using less paper towels by replacing them with washable cleaning cloths when possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Donald Suthard 4/24/2018 9:09 AMThe future really is in renewable energy. I hope our political leaders realize this sooner than later and allow this technology to reach its full potential. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Donald Suthard 4/24/2018 8:52 AMThere is a public farm with acres of open land that is incredibly windy in the winter. We've always thought it would be a great place for a wind farm. And now learning more about micro wind turbines, it makes it even more realistic something like this could become reality. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Donald Suthard 4/24/2018 8:43 AMI had not heard of Biomass technology before this. I didn't realize you could heat an entire home or building using wood, wood chips, or wood pellets. I thought those were only good for a cozy fire or wood stove for an evening by the fire. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Donald Suthard 4/24/2018 7:25 AMOne way to start to shift and ENTIRE culture away from a meat focused diet to a more sustainable plant based diet is by setting an example and simply changing YOUR diet. Once more people are introduced to the concept of a plant based diet it won't seem so foreign and strange, and they might be more willing to try it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Donald Suthard 4/23/2018 11:31 AMIt is heartening to know alternative sources of energy are being developed and improved. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Express My SupportWhat do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?
Donald Suthard 4/23/2018 6:36 AMWhile I don't bike in the city, I am glad Boston is becoming more bicycle friendly. I am hoping the city continues to build on this great start. It not only helps the city and the residents/visitors, but also helps the environment.
