REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/25/2018 9:42 AMWe have one large building called the B&BT building. It is currently under construction which means it could have micro turbines placed on it right now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/25/2018 9:35 AMI feel very hopeful about the recent publicity environmental problems have been getting but also their solutions. I am also hopeful because science is proving to be very helpful in finding solution for environmental issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Zachary Theodossiou 4/25/2018 9:24 AMPlastics are constantly being created and we have no effective way to get rid of them. If they continue to build up we might not have a solution in time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/23/2018 10:08 AMThe expiration dates I see most of the time are really the best date to sell them. Many times I have thrown milk out because it was approaching that date without realizing that it was a sell by date not use by. By knowing the difference I will not waste as much food as I had been. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/23/2018 10:07 AMI think people just paying for a system in their own houses seems the most feasible. If it saves people money than why would someone not get it?! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/23/2018 9:52 AMI am currently eating a diet that is heavy in meat. For cattle to be raised a lot of forest have to be cut down to make room for more grasslands that way those cattle can eat. My eating less meat I will help lower the amount of cattle needed and keep forests from being deforested. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Zachary Theodossiou 4/17/2018 9:26 AMYes, I had heard of it before. I learned that it can not be used to solve our emission problem but can be part of the solution itself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Zachary Theodossiou 4/11/2018 10:00 AMI think the amount of strides people have made towards reversing the effects of climate change is actually very comforting. We still have a long way to go but I think the tide is turning and we are starting to head in the right direction. It does not mean we should stop trying but continue to do these things like the eco challenge because it is the right direction.
