Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?

I had not heard of Regenerative Agriculture before; but it also lead me to uncover another study area and that of Silvopastrue (integrating trees into pasture land), to sequester more carbon (as RegenAgric focuses on restoration and retention of carbon within the soil). That lead me to reaching out to my  friend who grew up on a dairy farm, and yes her 4 generation old, Missouri farm had masses of trees in the pastureland. Now the ideas circle back to my own herb/tomato garden and not necessarily tilling or changing out the soil but changing up the items grown within the same soil....loads to learn on this EcoChallenge website!

This is a win-win-win organization; educational, humanitarian and sparks innovation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

It is good to encourage your local food retailers to discount products that are within a day of "sell by" and put these in a consistent, specific area. Encourage them to do so, if they don't already...anything to reduce food waste.

I agree that this is a good idea! What's frustrating for me is that my local grocer does this, but wraps the discounted produce in plastic wrap and styrofoam!

ift.org carries a nice effective use of food wheel graphic; I posted this on the company refrigerator. Secondly the site provides information on food labeling for sell by, use by and best by. I posted this on the company break room refrigerator as well. Focus is to reduce food waste!
