After researching about family planning, I found a cloud of social discomfort around it. It's important to change that. By speaking with each other about safe contraception, etc. we can create a safer, more hospitable world!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

Living a sustainable lifestyle, realizing that we, as humans, have the fate of the earth in our hands, is a daunting but empowering understanding. We can use the power we have to live selflessly, for the earth, rather than for ourselves. We're only here for a short time, and we better not take that for granted.

I was shocked when I heard that the #1 cause of climate change is poor disposal of air conditioners and refrigerators.

Utilizing high speed rail systems in Asheville and the surrounding areas would be a win for all people! Not only do they reduce emissions from cars, but how practical would that be? Asheville's population is growing rapidly and we need to catch up.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

Understanding that most part of a vegetable or fruit is edible is an important part of effectively minimizing food waste.

Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?

If women are empowered in terms of their business endeavors, they'll be empowered to better the world around them. Spreading the love is very important. This starts with supporting female businesses! I supported a TN Photographer, CJ Harvey, by purchasing some of her art. http://cjharveyart.com/ Below is a photo taken by her!
