This was a great challenge! I learned a lot of new things, and think some of these habits (being conscious of palm oil in my diet and products, and eating less meat) will stick. I am still trying to start using a compost/food waste collection service, but approval from my HOA is slow-going... hopefully I can start this soon!

Taking the daily recycling challenge really made me more conscious of my purchasing and sorting both at home and work during the challenge. I'm committed to keeping up my recycling diligence!

    Food composting
Producing uneaten food squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these motivates you the most to change your behavior regarding food waste?

All of those resources listed are very important to me!

    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I think people eat meat because they are not introduced to more creative meals and foods. Vegan is delicious when done right!

Women and Girls Help Girls Overcome Health Barriers
In what other ways could you help girls overcome health barriers to being able to attend school?

Many girls in developing countries are malnourished because their brothers are given higher priority. Perhaps we can help by funding schools to feed them when their families do not have the means. This brings them to school, takes part of the burden off the families, and then the educated girl will be in a better position to help her family when she is older.

Women and Girls Give a Microloan
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?

The better question would be,  "Why do men not invest more in their families and communities?"  Are they unaware of how their actions affect their loved ones? How do we raise boys to be better men?

Land Use Support Indigenous Peoples' Land Management
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Anything out of balance cannot last. Balance allows the natural cycles to continue and maintain life.
