    Balance is fundamental in sustainability, particularly between our built and natural environments. However "balance" does not mean things remain equal and balanced at all times. Just as in ecosystems, there will be disturbances that require resilience. In ecology, diversity builds resilience, which reduces the impact of disturbances.
