Richard Blackford 4/24/2018 6:45 PMI just finished another bathroom remodel with recycled wood for all the moldings and cabinets. The project was built with western red ceder that was cut in 1980 and originally installed as siding on a nearby house. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Richard Blackford 4/22/2018 6:11 PMI have chosen to support Recycle Brevard, a not-for-profit, woman-owned business that is primarily engaged in collecting and finding markets for any item that can be reused or recyled. Recycle Brevard uses its resources to educate the public, particularly children, of the importance of reducing consumption and reusing, repurposing, repairing, or recycling what would normally be discarded into our local landfill. I am proud to support Marcia Booth's programs to improve our community.

Richard Blackford 4/21/2018 11:01 AMWe have been learning a lot, but this group is already doing more than most. We have been living this way for a very long time. My next step is to investigate some form of communal property where we can live separately, but somewhat dependent on each other for food, services and companionship. Several of our friends only need small homes, have barterable skills, and enjoy each others company. We just need to find the right progressive community that doesn't require minimum square footage for homes and allows for creative ownership programs. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Richard Blackford 4/21/2018 10:49 AMI like coops. Ownership is important and one of the coops I belonged to had two tier charging for services. One level for the coop investors who put up the money to start, and a somewhat higher rate for users without initial investment. The latter group would pay a premium that could be applied to ownership share over time. -
