    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

I had not heard of it at all.  co-existance is the biggest advantage of silvopasture.

The first day I was able to ride to work in a while!  That in itself made a great beginning of the week!!!

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

    gretta bowman's avatar
    gretta bowman 4/22/2018 9:01 PM
I will not toss so much food as the dates are practically meaningless and more serves the producers.  However,  buying less to begin with and what you need for the immediate future will reduce the waste as I feel that date stamp has a huge psychological effect.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    gretta bowman 4/12/2018 6:39 PM
In my opinion, it is part of our culture.  I find the question a bit biased , condescending & insulting. Honestly, not sure how the American cowboy culture, meat & potates lifestyle came to be specifically but I don't like the negative inuendo honestly.  Sorry -

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

I am defining 'my community' as Mai Wai (My Why) a 5 acres tract that will provide housing and resources for 6 families.  Our goal is to utilize the resoures on the property that are sustainable & beneficial to the environement.  As much as possible - althernative electricity, composting, producing as much as possible of our own food, establishing networks of natually & organically sourced food that we do not produce ourselves.  This challenge is timely and a great motivation to help us acheive our goals.  Thanks so much!

It is me.  I have taken a bee keeping class at the local community college & a member of a local bee keeping club.  Learned alot.  A wonderful & supportive community.  One of the projects - Adopt-A-Bee - is non-profit initiative to educate people about bees, provide opportunites to partake in bee keeping, honey extracting & Mead Making.

That' exciting.  This picture is of a beekeeper.  Is that you?  That's something I have thought about doing and not gotten around to.  Is this part of your community effort?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    gretta bowman's avatar
    gretta bowman 4/11/2018 8:20 AM
I really like the veritical turbines.  The Harbor in Bay St. Louis would be a great place to begin a wind turbine project.  Besides being pretty breezy, it get's quite alot of visitors that could be made aware of the power of the wind.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

hmmmm....- ya think I may shed a couple of ounces!!?  I sure would like that benefit!
