  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Plan to Insulate
How can you make your home more energy efficient?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:41 AM
I use low flow plumbing fixtures, LED light bulbs, energy star windows, high SEER heat pump, wall insulation, healthy/safe products, recycle, compost, no plastic wrap or bags.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Materials Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:39 AM
Waste and littering, especially plastics, get into water streams. Chemicals and medications are not properly disposed of. Why is it so difficult to provide proper easily accessed disposal centers?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Share Bioplastic Disposal Tips
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:38 AM
The amount of waste. Both from the perspective of the energy, materials, and water it takes to make products to the trash that is produced and then clogs and pollutes our land.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Become A Master Recyler/Composter
What could you do differently to waste less?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:37 AM
    Buy less
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:34 AM
Yes, when you walk or bike you are much more likely to meet new people and get to know your neighbors. You also notice buildings and storefronts that you would otherwise miss. This increases demand on local shops.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:32 AM
I use scrap to make stock for soups, sauces and other meals.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Donate
How are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:31 AM
These fuel sources tend to be cheaper or more readily available to low income areas so that have little choice to switch to cleaner sources. These areas tend to also have less access to health care.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:26 AM
Some speculate that wave and tidal energy can supply at least 10 percent of the world's energy consumption. That is much more than I anticipated.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:25 AM
A sustainable community is one where all rooftops are covered in PV. There are no trash cans out on collection day, only compost or recycling. Or there are on-site digesters.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Support Microgeneration in Low Income Countries
What are other ways in which developing countries without the same infrastructure as developed nations can bypass old ways of doing things for cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies?

    Kate Bubriski's avatar
    Kate Bubriski 4/25/2018 6:24 AM
They can cook with clean fual sources. They can use solar generated lighting and devices.
