  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Support Microgeneration in Low Income Countries
What are other ways in which developing countries without the same infrastructure as developed nations can bypass old ways of doing things for cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies?

Farm using silvopasture methods where trees have been cut down.  Grow things that can feed the community as well as exports.  Stop accepting the world's hand me downs and garbage.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

advocating for it, volunteer at a non-profit
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 8:54 PM
I'm hopeful for new technologies and methods that are being researched and tested.  The things that are overwhelming are those that are out of our direct control such as destruction of rain forests, changing the way people think, giving access to alternative energy options to all people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 8:47 PM
A big contributor is advertising through commercials, movies ads and a culture that dislikes change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 8:46 PM
Ideally put them towards energy efficient appliances in the home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 8:45 PM
My house is less energy efficient than comparable houses.  We have equipment we can switch out for energy efficient items such as washer, dryer, insulation.  These are all things we hope to do over the next few years.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 5:15 PM
A sustainable community would be on in which each household agreed to practice certain sustainable measures and always look forward to change and progress in methods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Alison Chambers's avatar
    Alison Chambers 4/25/2018 12:49 PM
Use everything until it's complete.  Reduce the foods I buy that waste packaging.  Use reusable grocery bags as much as possible.  Don't use plastic bags for fruit or veggies whenever possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
