REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these advantages inspire you the most?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 4:57 PMSupporting local farmers is my priority. Keeping more farms rather than a centralized one can avoid monopoly. In addition, it also encourages local farmers to produce high quality food rather than pursue big quantity just for sales. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood compostingProducing uneaten food squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these motivates you the most to change your behavior regarding food waste?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 4:55 PMI would say water since California is really in need of water. Every water resource should be used on point. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 4:53 PMIt can enhance occupant comfort and save electricity consumption. It is also helpful when the heater can be triggered automatically by the t-stat, so the functioning of the heater will be easier -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Plan to InsulateHow can you make your home more energy efficient?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:41 PMI would recommend to replace the simple thermostat with a programed one, change windows to double paned ones, improve roof and wall insulations, install water aerators on faucets, and replace the old center water heater serving the whole building. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy do you care about taking action on climate change?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:39 PMI hope the offsprings can still enjoy many wonderful things on the Earth. As we all know, climate change will cause significant natural catastrophe to impact the world lives. It will be very upset to see people in the future suffering from what we remain for them. In addition, the acceleration of climate change also influences people nowadays in many ways. For ourself, actions must be taken to slow down climate change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Express My SupportWhat do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:33 PMIt is easy to ride on bike lanes and find part along the street. I would just hope the bike lanes could be 100% isolated from the car lanes so riding bikes can be more comfortable and safer without worrying the cars coming to crash the bike lanes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:30 PMI firstly learned it when I was attending an exchange program in Sweden. It might not seem a primary energy source in the US, but it has already surpassed oil to provide 32% of the energy use in Sweden in 2010. The percentage is still going up to reach Sweden's Zero-Oil perspective. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Test Drive an Electric BikeHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you feel that these facts apply to you? If so, how might you incorporate an electric bike into your lifestyle?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:17 PMI still prefer to drive or ride my non-electric bike instead of the electric bike. I am more aware that electric bike is more expensive and easier to get stolen. I am sure it helps traffic but personally it causes me worries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Host a Film ScreeningWhat is the next step beyond raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues?
Chih Jen Cheng 4/25/2018 1:12 PMIf we can add more women helping making laws in the councils, parliament, etc., we will be able to make useful regulations to protect women's rights
